In the early to mid 2000s I worked a day job as a technical project manager, a 3rd shift NOC job and worked on a side business during the NOC job. My side business required me to mostly interact with people in a time zone 7 hours ahead of mine. I took the 3rd shift job because I was going to need to be awake anyways. Everyone I worked with during that 3rd shift had a day job and some other side hustle going on. I did have to respond to some emails and take some phone calls regarding the business during my day job also. This lasted for 2 1/2 years at which time I sold the business and quit the NOC job.
During that time period one of my co-workers at the day job was also working as an Oracle consultant and owned/managed 2 Afghan kabob restaurants. He would do a walk around the office to be seen a couple of times a day. In between he was either at his restaurants or at one of his clients. We got free Afghan kabobs and covered for him if anyone ever came looking for him.
