Comment on Ask HN: Do you contribute to open source projects?

Comments

We consume open source libraries at work and sometimes we discover a bug or a small missing feature. When it makes sense to make a change in the library (i.e., the problem is not our misuse of the library), I'll get permission to contribute to that open source project on work time. It's a small way to give back. Also, it is sometimes less effort to fix the root cause rather than working around it in our code.

I'd like to contribute more, given how much I use open source software. It's really hard to keep writing code after a day spent writing code for work.
