Comment on Fpx: Easy USB‑C power for all your devices

Comments

When they say 'power for all your devices' it's more about hobby projects right rather than retrofitting usb-c to anything?

Quite cool option though and I love the flash to program option.

retrofitting usb-c to anything?

Nah, you can retrofit USB-C to things, sort of.

Say you have something that takes a 5.5mm barrel connector and 12V @ 1A.

You can tell this thing to negotiate for 12V @ 1A, and if it can't get it, to give up.

In turn, it can power that device from many USB-C adapters.

You can buy much the same thing pre-assembled into a cable-- https://www.amazon.com/2-Pack-JacobsParts-Type-C-Trigger-Con...

(But the fpx thing makes safer choices, like letting you not connect the "wrong" voltage if the charger is not capable).

It's risky, but I've seen people use similar hardware to retrofit knicknacks like flashlights and Gameboys.
