Comment on SF Millennium Tower Tilts Quarter Inch in Four Days

Comments

Building failure can happen in unexpected ways. We were watching a brick Victorian era office block on fire. The roof peak was leaning over the street and we and the fire department were expecting it to fall onto the street which had been cordoned off.

The triangular top of the peak fractured horizontally lower down and the rotation around the fracture line pushed the wall below back into the building and successively collapsed each floor.

Unfortunately there were firefighters inside. A couple did hospital time.
