The COVID scolds who rail at people to wear masks while distanced outdoors or campaign to close down parks and beaches, despite no evidence that such measures impact COVID transmission, are like the Orthodox Jews in Israel who throw rocks at people driving on Shabbat.
Taking offense? No. But "you should social distance and/or wear a mask when outdoors" is not equivalent to religious zealots attacking people because of their bigotry. Oof.
I agree. Something I've begun to notice this year with the pandemic panic is that religion is everywhere. It may not be called religion by most people, but it has all the marks, devotion ("follow the science/experts", "it's just a mask"), high-priests (Fauci, Gates), cleanliness rituals, evangelism (posters, billboards, in every city and on most businesses).
