Comment on PHD in Statistics & Economics

Comments

The math of research-level statistics is so hard many statisticians don't do it, and economists often gripe about not being able to justify even basic statistical approaches.

The financial industry has in the past had a great deal of interest in this space, and so I believe there is a good deal that can be developed - if you could get data. After the recession, I would not be surprised if interest wanes.

I don't actually know what I'm talking about, but I would not recommend this line to everyone. There is much that is frustrating - biostatistics has better posed questions.
