That is absurd! Was this an April Fools joke (can't load the PDF right now)? I can't imagine any use case for that feature that isn't going to be hell to maintain.

Yes. In the opening paragraph there's a reference to a companion paper from April 1, 1998. I'd say that's a strong hint.

Julia supports juxtaposition with number literals in front and it's really neat.
