Probably from an older ϝορσανός (worsanós), which may be related to οὑρέω (houréō, “to urinate”), from Proto-Indo-European h₁worseye-, from h₁wers- (“rain”) (compare Sanskrit वर्षति (varṣati, “it rains”).
