Earlier I had used Evernote, then tried Simplenote and now I've finally settled on Standard Notes (https://app.standardnotes.org/).

Standard Notes is dead-simple to use and the database is encrypted. Currently, I'm using a free plan, but considering to switch to the yearly plan.

Edit: I checked out notion.so but it seems somewhat complex to use. Maybe I need to play around for a while.
