You do not need to hire a large expensive firm, and a good lawyer should be able to stay within reasonable cost constraints (just make sure you negotiate an acceptable cost estimate before you start work).
I've used the New York office of Gunderson Dettmer for this. They're not cheap but they will explain everything to you perfectly and will get the details right. In my opinion, money well spent.
