I say this out of sincerity, and not to be a jerk. You want to be a "somebody"? Then launch. Two years without a launch is very concerning. Start a blog and work on it DAILY. Force others to recognize you in your industry as an expert.
I realize that I'm saying this from an outsider's perspective and I don't know the insider's scoop. Part of being a successful startup requires discovering your MVP (minimum viable product) early. This will then allow you validate your business model and focus on customer development. I highly encourage you to research Steve Blank (if you haven't) and his Customer Development model.
