Every abstraction layer build over others. It doesn't matter how decentralized your infrastructure is nor how strong is the encryption it uses, if it's built over an OS with poorly implemented and insecure IPC the entire stack will be vulnerable.

Also, having a "cloud" of thousands of physical or virtual servers doesn't mean you stop caring if your servers have or not poor performance due to inefficient IPC.
