It's odd not to examine the "contacted a friend at GitHub" part.
Authentication aside: what does somebody do to talk to GitHub if you don't have a friend at GitHub that's willing to chat with you? Would Kenneth have been given the Source IP address of the attacker if he didn't know someone there?

Write a blog post on Medium with the perfect click-bait title to make it go viral. Hope a github engineer reads it and gets back to you.
Github has a support system and from my experience they reply quite fast.
