Ask HN: Systematic approach to learning design

I am a developer looking to get a but stronger with design. In particular, I'd like to improve my skills with mapping and data visualization, and strong design is key to creating a quality finished product.

I learn best with systematic, organized materials with exercises, much like a college course or MOOC. Are there any resources out there like this to learn aspects of design?
