Ask HN: Spagetti Sauce and A/B Testing

Was wondering if similar to food industry's pursuit of perfection[1](but, there is no one taste that everybody likes) , website visitors might have varied preferences for layouts and colors.

With A/B Testing we try to find which is that one layout/color of widget that attracts more people, but are we loosing out on people who actually preferred the original layout ?.
