Ask HN: How do I make sure ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini forget all prior conversations?
I am referring to the regular chat, not the API. I want to make sure that every time I start a new chat, it is a completely clean slate with no recall from other chats. I have tried turning off memory, I have also tried prompting it to forget everything, which it claims it has done but hasn't.
Later in the conversation I will see something like, "Given your expertise in..." or "This ties in nicely with your ...", things that it would only know from prior chats.

First of all, they never ever never will delete anything. Same as Google or Facebook, they never ever delete a single byte. Even if you permanent delete and they say they deleted something. And that is no secret, Facebook says that.
They need to implement a way to start fresh. Until that happens, handle it.
The only way to start fresh is to use your own models at home. They always start fresh.
Why do you need those online models? Probably you get the same exact ouput from most of offline models.
- turn off memory and delete
- turn off chat search so it cannot search other chats for context
- delete custom instructions / system prompt
- do not run inside a claude project or GPT project
- delete all skills and plugins
Most sources of context should now be blank.
Start a new chat in an incognito window?
I think he means that on the server side, it always recall the previous chats.
Yes, but ChatGPT does not require a log-in for a little chatting. A new incognito tab solves this problem.
And I just saw this: https://chatgpt.com/?temporary-chat=true
