With a number of high-level departures in recent months from OpenAI, one wonders just how much money they have left. And how close they might be to collapsing...

For a company that wants to have a massive IPO that would be worth multi-billions, if not trillions, is this the cue to leave the party before the music stops?

The bubble will burst someday. But I would be careful with predicting when. I have a bunch of extra cash ready to invest in the S&P500 when it finally pops

Four years to vest anywhere, what's the math to leave so early?

The vested shares are unlikely to be worth anything, so they are essentially just working for a salary.

There's a fairly liquid secondary market for OpenAI stock - see: Forge, Hiive, EquityZen

Doesn’t a sale require approval by OpenAI?

Looks like you're right - I've only been on the buy side of this equation. The company has regular tender offers but that's significantly less liquid than my earlier comment implied.

Outrageously untrue. So untrue there's a name for it.

Perhaps everything is fine and this person and the bunch of other recent high profile OpenAI departures just really hate money.

There’s a gulf of possibility between. I’m just disputing the idea they’re working only for paychecks because there are no secondary options for their vested stock.

OpenAI-Anthropic is similar to Twitter-Facebook.

Twitter was full of dramas at the exec and founder level, and that impacted their execution.

Facebook had strong leadership, was very focused, and executed well.

Executed so well we all take meetings in VR

That's true. By any standard, Facebook is very much a failure.

I saw sean parker closed a whole street in nyc today to have a crane move a giant painting into his brownstone

What a failure. Only be able to afford a giant painting. A truly successful person should've been able to afford a football-stadium-sized painting.

One year tenure. Yikes.
