Conceptually, they are expressively equivalent to event buses and pub/sub systems, which are better recognised as message passing backplanes.

I do think TanStack DB and somewhat TanStack Query finally show a little more actual statement management, for real. Some of the graphql's do too. But I think this is so, broadly/generally, under explored. The controllers of state should be much more cross cutting. They rapidly become sync engines, with good cause.
