I tapped out if software engineering years ago. They boot out most people past 45, and at that age, it's very difficult to get hired by anyone if you are laid off.

AI also seems to be eating these jobs first.

the real reason we retire early is because no one wants to grind leetcode at 55 just to be managed by a 24-year-old. the money is just the enabler.
