This is the way to go for Jetbrains! Instead of trying to race with the other bazillion agents and models coming up every day, be the racetrack instead.
The Jetbrains IDEs have so many features that could be integrated well with the vibe coding "tools", such as diagnostics, refactorings, debugging, etc. Potential is there, and I'm happy that they're gonna focus on that now.
Also very nice PR move being frank about the pivoting.
