As for political division - i still remember 1994 midterms when the going complaint about politics was that elections were a fake since people told to choose between two parties that differ about as much as Coke and Pepsi do. That it was a choice with no choice. It's actually a fair description of what was going on. Maybe a bit of political division is a good thing.
