I’ve been part of many migrations at this point and my feelings toward them depend on if I feel the migration is actually needed and worth it.

When it seems like a worthwhile upgrade to something I want to learn and use, I jump in with both feet and quite enjoy it.

When it feels like the only reason for the migration is for a VP to leverage it into an SVP or CIO role at a new company, I’m less thrilled. These migrations are long, painful, and it feels like pulling teeth every step of the way, because no one in the organization is really on board.

I agree. All migrations are not equal, and the first step should be evaluating how worthwhile the migration itself is. I'm fortunate that most of the ones I've been involved in have been pretty obviously worth it (at least to me).
