Important sentence in introduction:

The expected background is solid undergraduate/beginning graduate courses in signals and systems, probability and digital communication.

The "wireless" is a key word here. The assumption is you already know wired communication pretty well, and know what "the system function for an LTI (linear time-invariant) channel" means.
