Ask HN: How did Windsurf investors make out like bandits when employees got $0?

Reports are that investors got $1.2b and "key" employees got $1.2b in equity grants at Google.

How is possible investors got that money without employees getting it? If Google paid Windsurf the entity, then surely Windsurf must have had to equally distribute the 1.2B. And there's no way investors had 100x liquidation preferences or whatever.

Did Google just directly pay the VCs? Or purchase only the VC shares?
