When they made the first move a month or so ago I promptly bailed and now I buy Kobo. I have ZERO interest in digital products I can't archive, it's my bottom line, especially with books that I don't want to have to deal with Amazon's Kindle app to manage.

I've purchased hundreds of Kindle volumes over the years, and never will again; I really doubt that I'm alone in that.

Were you able to backup your existing Kindle purchases?

Fortunately I was, mostly because I'd been doing that all along for years. If not... that would have been a very unpleasant experience.

Same here! I love Kobo and done w Kindle.
