Show HN: Law and Order SVU – The RPG

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is the longest running prime time live action series in television history. Over the years I've probably seen about a billion hours of this show.

I'm a musician. During the pandemic lockdown, I started sampling dialogue and background music from the show, thinking I could maybe make some funny songs out of it. As this SVU album started coming together, I wondered how on earth I would be able to convince people to listen to it.

At some point it hit me: people would probably play "SVU The RPG," and these songs could be the soundtrack. All I had to do was figure out how to make a video game.

This project incorporated a lot of the fun extracurricular skills I've been working on over the years: RPG Maker, front end web development, Photoshop, Final Cut, Logic, Ableton, writing, old man yelling at cloud, and of course: making fun of SVU.

The show is a multi-million dollar cop propaganda sex crime exploitation soap opera that takes itself dead seriously. The game is crass, and not for everyone, but it might be for you. Have a good time, and as they used to say in the arcades, "winners don't use drugs."
