There's much less demand for post-consumer recycled plastic than there is supply, so regardless of how easy or difficult recycling is for a specific plastic resin, diverting more into the recycle bin often has no effect.

Plastic bottles, which usually use PET, are an exception, with plenty of demand for products that use recycled PET.
