The anti link policies we see in much of social media aren’t just about building a closed platform - they’re anti competitive. But our anti trust laws are inadequate to easily and quickly enforce against such practices.

The "level 0" practice of Federation is to allow and not punish external links although there is a legitimate concern about spam.
