It was great back in the day, and amazing to think that we could literally turn the data document itself into a complete web page without any intervening JavaScript. As much as I loved XML, the terseness of JSON won and I can't imagine going back. JS itself is also terse and allows accessing data elements through dot notation rather than slashes, so we can achieve all the same effects as XSLT -- but we give up its declarative nature. [sigh]
