No mention in the article, but my understanding is that the #1 targets for corporate virtue-signaling are scarce&valuable-talent employees. Those signals need not be "left" nor "right" - at least in SE Michigan, plenty of corporations support food banks and literacy tutoring and symphony orchestras and such.
And, at least in the US, some business leaders could have utterly self-serving reasons to start disfavoring the Right. 'Cause if there's a civil war, then all those dollars & stock options they've been helping themselves to might just turn into worthless paper. );
