The promise of local / alternative currencies has never been really fulfilled despite many valiant efforts over decades.
The comparison with speculative crypto that has become a major trend while coming out of nowhere and being basically empty of any economic substance is sobering.
Somehow we need monetary tools that can both survive the dominance of official currency, create real value for depressed parts of the economy and not be intrinsically ponzi schemes...
