Financial data APIs from public companies

Do you know any kind of APIs that are either very cheap, or open source with basic data from companies by quarter like revenues, earnings etc?

I have seen a few, but they seem quite expensive for the purpose I want to use it, and I wish I could just open source it and make it free.

I currently use google sheets and the financial information available from GOOGLEFINANCE formula just sucks, so instead I'll just try to build it and open source it.

BTW, I'm surprised Google can't do this right, I'm sure if they'd hire me full-time this would be perfect in no time. I use Google sheets a lot... and sometimes I wonder if they even have a team for it, as it barely gets any updates. It's a product with so much potential but seemly affected by lots of inertia.

Thank you

Nothing comes to mind, but if you were to build this, you could ingest data from the SEC's EDGAR [1] system to normalize and index.
