On HN

Last time I posted my laptop finder idea (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39653971) I got some great feedback. I made some adjustments to the algorithm being used to display recommendations, filtered out some lower-quality brands, and tried adding more sanity checks to the data coming from the Amazon API (surprisingly not great quality!).

Importantly, I added an entirely new “advanced” section (https://easylaptopfinder.com/?advanced), which is essentially just a filterable table of all the laptops on the site and the attributes I’m using from the Amazon API. I figure this is a nice interface for power users (and seems to work really well for another great site, diskprices.com). I’d be interested in what folks think of this new view (or the quality of the original finder itself). Also let me know if you have any questions about how this was implemented.

Thank you for taking a look and I appreciate any feedback!

You can repost after a year or so or for some major update or pivot but the very next week is too soon to repeat a Show HN that's already had traction. Take a look at

Oh, sorry about that. I don’t think I can delete it now though. How can I take it down?

You don't need to delete it, it's no big deal or mortal sin.

It would be great to see non Amazon purchase options. I understand that would increase the complexity and it might make it more difficult to monetize if you want to add affiliate links, but having more options that might better fit a user could give the tool more use.

I would not purchase any of the options suggested to me by your site. With that said, It's also possible I am not your target demographic.

Thank you for the feedback! If you have time and are willing to elaborate, I’d appreciate why you aren’t interested in any of the suggestions (or if it’s just the fact they’re all from Amazon). Thanks!

I entered my values and it gave me my current laptop, so well done

Haha! As long as you’re happy with your current laptop, I count it as a win!

Being able to see the CPU would be helpful
