Very interesting article. I think energy storage will become be important but in many cases these kinds of solutions could be a good alternative.

Not sure how relevant it’d be for northern climates like where I live though.

The production of lithium-ion batteries requires fossil fuels, and (unlike lead-acid batteries) they are not recycled.

This isn’t quite true. Recycling of li-ion batteries is already happening at an industrial scale and it’s clear that we’re heading towards 100% recycling eventually. Didn’t Apple just announce that they’re using 100% recycled cobalt in li-ion batteries now?
