Rule of thumb: ~95% of upper-level managers are alpha-type primates, in mostly-vanity jobs at the top of the primate social pyramid. They got there by primate-style pyramid climbing. The only legit social function they serve is keeping the rest of the primate pyramid behaving, by occasionally making threatening noises and baring their teeth. But from their own point of view (usually) the rest of they pyramid only exists to validate, serve, and be abused by them.
