Escher lived a large part of his life a kilometer from here. It's interesting to walk by there and to think back to the days when he lived there and quietly made most fantastic artwork (I was mesmerized by it as a young child and still am today). He made his work in wood, perfectly registered in multiple 'planks' for the various phases of the printing. I wonder what happened to the originals, they must be around somewhere.
Reading his letters about how much work it was and how physical it was really puts into perspective why this was a life well spent, each and every one of his works brings something unique into the mix as his style evolved over the years. And to make all these transformations without the aid of a computer makes it even more impressive.

It's just black and white; on and off. It's what makes icons mesmerizing.
