While reading about the extensive controversy surrounding Reddit, I was reminded of this article by Jeff Atwood on constructing a Stack Overflow replica.

I believe that the coding aspect is not the most challenging aspect of developing an alternative to Reddit. Building a community is exceedingly difficult and time-consuming. Often, people tend to overlook this fact when utilizing Reddit, but they deserve immense credit for cultivating such a massive community. I acknowledge the substantial effort contributed by moderators and users, but it is Reddit itself that initially facilitated the connection between millions of users and moderators. Establishing a platform is a challenging task, but attracting and engaging individuals is an even greater challenge.
