ReFS was designed to overcome problems that had become significant over the years since NTFS was conceived

I guess this is a tribute to the designers of DEC's ODS-11/Files-11 filesystem. NTFS seemed like a slightly less capable ODS-11 to me, although this is rarely mentioned publicly.
