one wonders what the point is, then.

Maybe Patti Smith simply didn't want it to be available anymore because she doesn't want to be associated with it any longer. She probably doesn't have much influence over the covers of the song.

I am all for ones' self-cancelling their own aspects about themselves.

I am not a big fan of stubbing on others' toe, in form of woke cancel culture (some for me, none for thee).
