My worst experience with customer service over the phone was in the UK. Poor guy on the other end had an accent (Scottish maybe?) so thick I could barely make out one word in five.
I agree with your sentiment. I saw something earlier today on social media feigning outrage that this was racist (or biased). Is translation biased? Is communicating with people in a language they understand most readily biased? The tech makes sense at face value, and is infinitely preferable to the usual corporate practice of doing everything possible to prevent you talking to a real human. But there is always going to be some armchair critic trying to explain why helpful tech is bad, imo because they can't actually accomplish anything themselves
