Pichai added, "There are real concerns that our productivity as a whole is not where it needs to be for the head count we have. [We need to] create a culture that is more mission-focused, more focused on our products, more customer-focused".

Focusing means giving greater attention to something to the detriment of alternatives. It’s prioritising. When you begin your strategy by selecting three vague goals as the most important, you’re on your way to failing to meet any.

It doesn’t sound like a change from the Google many of us envision, which “focuses” on each of half a dozen apps which do the same thing (chat).

It's good that they're coming out and saying this, but let's see if their words have teeth.

Big Tech are paying the best and brightest not to work at other companies or start their own.

I can think of two guys who should get a pink slip.
