Ask HN: Opinion on an app that can store newly learned words (Not a dictionary)

Hey People! Everytime we see a new word, we search it on Google or in a dictionary (It might be digital or printed). Which is actually good, we see a lot of words and try to remember their meaning. But these words are not stored on somewhere, I mean a central place where we can search and find ONLY the words we've learnt.

My plan is to make an app for JUST the words I put in it. The user will search the meaning by himself and add the corresponding meaning to the word.

Thus a database will be created and I’ll add search functionality within the database (Not like dictionaries). After that maybe... Adding AI recommendation system, TTS, Showing progress etc.

Example:

Count | Word | Meaning ----------------------------------- 1 | Humbug | Deceptive

I know that some people may say that a note taking app or even an excel sheet can do that, but personally I felt the need of something different.

So..... What do you think of this idea?

Hmm... I haven't seen it. Will check it out!

Isn't this just Anki (flash cards) with extra steps?

If you find a new word put it on a flashcard, and get exposed to it daily (spaced repetition) pretty soon you'll have learned it.

Didn't know about Anki. Thanks for the info. Will definitely try out!
