Sales tax is generally only applicable when a good or service of value is being provided. Goodwill/general support/undying appreciation is not normally taxable

What are the usual sales tax requirements for GitHub Sponsors? To my uninformed self, having a normal repo that folks support is along the lines of general support, but a Sponsor repo starts to sound alot like a value provided.

That would make any Patreon also taxable, right?
