I usually like Derek's blog posts but thus one left me somewhat unsatisfied. I already know what chirality is, so I wish he had talked less about that and more about the specific research that got the prize.
Are there any industrial or commercial products that use MacMillan's organocatalysis in their production? That's what I'd like to know. My memory is that proline catalysis was done at something like 10-20 mol% which is somewhat hard to justify in most industrial processes, though I guess proline is a relatively cheap molecule
