But why wouldn't the owner of the AI just claim credit for himself? This is like awarding a patent to your computer because you used it in coming up with your invention.

The entire point is removing humans from the loop.

Patents can already be owned by corporations. Who cares who gets recorded as the inventor?

A baby step toward legal personhood for autonomous AIs. Now they can sell their work for hire.
