He found that around 97% of millionaires surveyed believed they were in control of their own destiny.

Isn't this just a survivor bias, mixed in with the belief one own success is purely due to ones own actions.

Why is it survivor bias?

It's not the 1920s anymore. If the media wants to use millionaire in the sense of meaning "rich people", the better add another 0 to that and look at 'decamillionaires', or which ever term they want to use. A million doesn't even buy a house anymore in many cities.
