I think the environmental argument against blockchain (or proof of work for that matter) is a very strong one. I'm not sure though if it is actually the best argument (I think blockchains are inherently useless for almost anything, regardless of reward function).
But the bigger point here.
What is exactly paying for in an NFT? If I "own" an NFT to a JPG do I have the legal power to enforce copy right infringements to this piece of art? Or is it just like baseball cards where I can proof that I own Jack Dorsey's first tweet? But someone else starts another NFT chain, my friend could own the same tweet?
