Ask HN: Individual-contributor career path for senior/principal data scientists?

I'm a senior data scientist who has been in this line of work for well over 5 years. I have people reporting to me, but I don't really enjoy being a manager and don't want to keep doing it in the future (a key reason: I want to work <40 hours/week and this is not typically compatible with management positions). At the same time, I don't really see a career growth trajectory for senior/principal data scientists outside of management. What are the most common paths for people like me?
