I was worries when I listened to Bill Maher earlier and comments about the need for more surveillance was met with nods and agreement. For 20+ years, the US has had massive over surveillance. For the same time period law enforcement has ignored white, right wing, terrorism. No amount more power will make them arrest people they choose to ignore...

Using the capitol incident of all things as an excuse for more surveillance becomes even more nonsensical when you remember the fact that basically all of the "planning" happened in public in open group chats, twitter/parler threads etc.. "Surveilling" most of those people was a matter of a few clicks.

Exactly. It's nuts.
