Ask HN: Ethical and privacy focused companies?

On HN

I'm hunting around a little for some companies focused on ethical and privacy preserving applications / systems.

The obvious ones that spring to mind are Mozilla, DuckDuckGo and ProtonMail, but does HN have any other examples?

Mojeek is the only horiziontal search engine with it's own crawler/index and which does not track you. Disclosure: I work at Mojeek.

Other search engines mentioned here, and many more, are primarily syndication partners of Bing (mostly), Google or Yandex.

Element messaging group that does Matrix protocol

Qwant and Ecosia for search engines come to mind.

Threema and Signal for messengers.

Interesting, I was just looking at Qwant this morning.

They seem different to other search engines in that they actually have their own index rather than just proxying to another engine (e.g. Bing)

They do have their own indexing but I thought they were also using Bing to some extend

They use Google I think.
